North York Moors – Let’s Learn Moor

Date: July 6-10 2020

Countryside Learning have teamed up with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation and National Gamekeepers Organisation Educational Trust, to deliver the Let’s Learn Moor Programme.

This invites primary children to spend a day on a grouse moor to learn about uplands habitats, the work of gamekeepers and farmers, the emergency services who protect the uplands, mountain rescue, National Parks and the management of the moors.

Following its success on the North York Moors, Let’s Learn Moor is being rolled out across 5 further moors and the aim will be to have 2000 plus primary school children out on various  moors at the beginning of July. This type of work demonstrates the power of partnership work.

All the contributors give their time for free, and the response from moor owners and their staff has been overwhelmingly positive. The aims of the days are to educate in a balanced way, and the teachers have been pleased to hear that the management of moors for grouse has been explained as one system of management and not necessarily the only system.
